  • Omotola Pushes Back Against Dance Challenges as Movie Promotion Tool

Omotola Pushes Back Against Dance Challenges as Movie Promotion Tool

The Nollywood veteran stated on TVC’s E Splash that she believes dancing for publicity is unprofessional and intends to stick to interviews, while leaving advertising to distributors.

In contrast to Funke Akindele, who attributes box office successes like A Tribe Called Judah surpassing ₦1 billion and Everybody Loves Jenifa surpassing ₦2 billion to her viral dances, skits, and fan gatherings, her remarks mirror those of Kunle Afolayan, who believed in No-Dancing to keep his movies buzzing for attention online.

Amidst Nollywood’s transition to social media buzz, fans are split, with some supporting Akindele’s successful, individual approach and others applauding Omotola’s drive for maturity.

These were some reactions from Netizens:

@Nsukka_okpa: Singlehandedly changed the Nigerian Cinema route. Singlehandedly gave everyone the blue print. Singlehandedly put niggas on. All of you that she put on and she put food on your table are scared to defend her. Because she no dey talk, Una wan chance her?

@easyKrane: So omotola having her own opinion is her trying to attack funke?? Y’all are the problem mehnn

@e_beautiful_: Honestly, all the narratives just don’t make sense! That woman does a lot! None of them talk about her collaborations with content creators and brands to promote her movies, or the skits and movie-style promos she does. They only focus on the dance! This woman legitimately flew six top actors to the UK for her movie premiere, what most producers would do alone, yet people mention her name in interviews in a demeaning way to glorify themselves. It just doesn’t make sense.

@Make3ITMake3S3nse: They hate greatness People who do the same thing you do, if they talk down on you just know it’s jealousy. They did it to Wizkid e no work, now it’s Funke… it’s not gonna happen

@SimplesmoG: There’s no attack here and don’t try to twist this. She was asked a question and responded by saying she can’t dance to promote a movie. You are starting to make it sound like people can’t have contrary opinions that they all have to dance to do PR

@Tobizeeno: Na only Funke dey dance? Bimbo did, don’t forget the gingerrr girls, tall Odunlade sef dance, even our trophy ambassador sef carry body, and the list goes on. Sane minds in the industry and society said there can be better ways to carry out promotions. We can’t continue the dancing trend, it’s draining and not sustainable. We all love our Jenifa, no one is blacklisting her. Coming for someone we all celebrate is what backfires, her fans didn’t expect that, they thought they would get away with it as usual. Imagine they got away with character-murder, you won’t drop Iwobi for damage control.

Lagos Govt Reacts as Fela Receives Posthumous Grammy Honour

Following his posthumous Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award recognition, the Lagos State Government has praised the family of the late Afrobeat icon Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, calling the honor a turning point in African music and culture.

The Grammy Special Merit Awards ceremony took place in Los Angeles, California, on January 31, 2026, when Fela became the first African musician to receive the prestigious accolade.
His children, Yeni, Femi, Kunle, and Shalewa Kuti, represented the family during the ceremony and accepted the honor on his behalf.

Lagos State Commissioner for Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka, responded to the news by calling the designation a historic accomplishment that demonstrates the impact of Fela’s music and message over the world.

She asserts that honor is a source of pride for Lagos State, Nigeria, and the African continent in addition to being a success for the Kuti family.

“This historic recognition is a powerful reminder of Lagos State’s enduring position as the cultural heartbeat of Africa and a nurturing ground for creative excellence,” Benson-Awoyinka said.

She pointed out that even after Fela’s death, African music is still relevant to many generations because of his contributions.

The state government’s dedication to upholding Fela’s legacy and bolstering the creative industry through consistent support for the arts, culture, and cultural diplomacy is further reinforced by the Grammy award, the commissioner noted.

“Fela’s contribution to global music and social consciousness remains immeasurable. His music boldly confronted military dictatorship, corruption, social injustice, and the oppression of the mass , while amplifying Africa’s voice on the global stage,” she said.

She added that Fela’s music is still relevant, influential, and greatly appreciated worldwide some thirty years after his passing.

Members of the Kuti family, meanwhile, called the prize a very significant occasion, pointing out that it represents a bridge across generations and the increasing international acceptance of African music and cultural expression.

They pointed out that the award confirms Fela’s enduring influence as a musician as well as a cultural revolutionary whose work spurred artistic freedom, resistance, and discourse.

Afrobeat’s founder, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, was well-known for fusing jazz, funk, and highlife with indigenous African rhythms while used music as a vehicle for social criticism and political expression.

Beyond his musical career, he became one of Africa’s most daring opponents of persecution, garnering international recognition for his advocacy and unwavering opposition to injustice.

As Afrobeat continues to influence international music trends, his influence may be observed in the works of many artists throughout Africa and beyond.

The Lagos State Government reiterated its dedication to advancing the state’s rich cultural legacy and making sure that notable individuals like Fela Anikulapo-Kuti’s legacies are conserved and honored for upcoming generations.

Why Angela Okorie Was Re-Arrested After Securing Bail

According to reports, Nigerian actress Angela Okorie was detained again for allegedly refusing to pay the attorney who obtained her bail from Suleja prison.

On Tuesday, Angela was arrested again at the Suleja prison and freed on bond right away.

According to Gist 9ja, this occurred less than an hour after actor Stanley Ontop expressed concern about a purported plot to re-arrest the actress on Tuesday after her release.

Actress Doris Ogala said in an Instagram video that she is already en route to the police station that she was re-arrested by an unidentified Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) for not paying the N5 million agreed upon fee to get her release.

Doris said; “You see, one thing is for someone to cut their clothes according to their size. Angela has been arrested again. As a matter of fact, I’m going to the police station now. You see, when Angela was arrested by Mercy, she called a friend of her or village person. I don’t know how they relate. To help her get a SAN.

“And the SAN charged them N5 million. I think the SAN was the one who even facilitated the bail and all that. Now when Angela knew that they have granted her bail according to the lady, Angela started saying that she didn’t ask her to get a SAN and she wasn’t going to pay the money, and meanwhile this lady has deposited.”

According to Gist 9ja, Angela was freed a short while ago after meeting the requirements of her bail, which was granted on Friday following her detention by Mercy Johnson for alleged slander.

Trump Fires Back at Grammys, Vows Legal Action Against Trevor Noah

The Grammy Awards have been under fire from U.S. President Donald Trump, who has called the show “virtually unwatchable” and accused host Trevor Noah of making a false and disparaging statement about him.

Trump stated that the Grammys were one of the “worst” award programs and that CBS was “lucky” to no longer broadcast what he referred to as “garbage” in a post on his Truth Social account.

Additionally, he criticized Noah’s hosting style, drawing negative comparisons to late-night talk show star Jimmy Kimmel.

Trump’s remarks came after Noah mentioned Trump and former President Bill Clinton in connection with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein at the awards event.

Trump vehemently denied ever going to Epstein’s private island or having any connection to it.

“I have never been to Epstein Island, nor anywhere close,” Trump wrote, insisting that he had never previously been accused of such by the media.

He claimed that Noah’s remark was untrue and slanderous.

Calling Noah a “pathetic” and “talentless” master of ceremonies, the president threatened to take legal action against him and advised that his attorneys file a claim for damages.

Additionally, Trump cited earlier court cases involving media personalities, claiming they had “worked out well” for him.

Toyin Alausa, a Nollywood actress, has criticized the increasing practice of posting images and videos of deceased people on social media, calling it needless, disrespectful, and unsettling.

Alausa questioned the purpose of publicly exposing the deceased in a post on her Instagram page on Monday, cautioning that such acts deprive people of their dignity and exacerbate the suffering of bereaved families.

She emphasized that it is now frighteningly common to post graphic content to increase online engagement.

“The way people just expose the dead on social media these days is so annoying and mind-boggling. What’s the point, actually?” she wrote.

The actress asked people on social media to be compassionate by at least hiding the faces of those who have passed away, especially in situations involving accidents or unexpected deaths. She claims that doing so protects family members’ emotional health and is a fundamental act of respect.

“Immediately it’s confirmed that someone has passed, the right thing to do is to cover them, at least the face. It’s about showing respect, offering dignity, and, in a way, providing emotional closure for their relatives,” she said.

Alausa emphasized that such stuff shouldn’t be made viral, even though he acknowledged that documentation can occasionally be required for clarification or public interest.

“This inhumane attitude has sadly become the norm. It may be important to get footage for clarification or when immediate relatives aren’t nearby, but not to be splashed as content on social media. It’s so disrespectful,” she added.

Additionally, Alausa called for more caution and compassion on the internet, cautioning that frequent exposure to pictures of the deceased can be distressing for both families and the general public.

“Seeing a blank face devoid of life and emotions can be extremely traumatic. We can do better and be more empathic,” she said.

Cubana Chief Priest Speaks: Davido’s Grammy Loss Linked to Refusal of “Demonic Stuff”

Nigerian socialite Pascal Okechukwu, commonly known as Cubana Chief Priest, has said that musician Davido’s losing streak at the Grammys was a premeditated ploy to frustrate and make him bend to the will of some white music professionals, who want him to partake in “demonic” activities.

Davido was defeated by South African celebrity Tyla in the Best African Music Performance category at the 2026 Grammy Awards Ceremony on Sunday, according to Gist 9ja.

Cubana Chiefpriest responded by urging Davido to maintain his moral principles and never make concessions to supposedly “demonic” Western music business leaders in an Instagram post.
He encouraged the performer to rapidly move past the setback and keep releasing music and pleasing his fans.

He wrote, “Oyibo dey do everything possible to break a strong man so he can do their demonic sh*t with them but he will never do ot. Heads up, brother, open the bag and drop another hot one for us. E no dey finish, gbedu na water.”

Kendrick Lamar Breaks Jay-Z’s Record to Become the Most-Awarded Rapper at the Grammys

  • Femi Kuti Says Fela Deserves Respect Amid Wizkid Comparison

Femi Kuti Says Fela Deserves Respect Amid Wizkid Comparison

Grammy-nominated Afrobeat musician Femi Kuti, the first son of Afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, has responded to the recent controversy over Wizkid’s reference to the late musical genius.

Gist 9ja remembers that in response to Seun Kuti’s criticism of him and his followers for drawing comparisons between the Ojuelegba crooner and the Afrobeat icon, Wizkid incited anger by asserting that he is “bigger” than Fela.

In a recent Skype interview with Arise TV from Los Angeles, Femi expressed his wish that the dispute hadn’t arisen, as he gets along well with Wizkid and his brother, Seun Kuti, who are at its core.

He apologized for the controversy, calling it an unnecessary priority. He maintained that instead of bringing up unimportant topics, younger musicians and artists in general should concentrate on calling for improved governance.

But according to Femi, Fela is unique and cannot be compared to any other performer.

The late Afrobeat pioneer should be honored and revered, he continued.

He said, “Fela is our father and all, even the younger artists respect him. The Fela vs Wizkid controversy is not an issue that should be brought up. Fela is the musical and artistic template in Nigeria.

“So, Fela should just be put in a sector of his own and we just idolise and respect him. I don’t want to go into Seun and Wizkid’s matter because Seun is my brother and Wizkid is like a son to me. I just wished it didn’t not arose.”

At this weekend’s 2026 Grammy Awards ceremony in Los Angeles, Femi Kuti is scheduled to accept Fela’s posthumous Lifetime Achievement Award.

  • Nollywood Stars Appeal for Funds to Support Aunty Ajara

Nollywood Stars Appeal for Funds to Support Aunty Ajara

Wumi Toriola, Mide Martins, Afeez Owo, and Ronke Oshodi Oke are among the well-known Nollywood celebrities who have asked for financial support for Aunty Ajara, a small-screen actress who is battling liver sickness.

Remember that Aunty Ajara was reportedly seen pleading with people to spare her life in a widely shared video on social media?

“Please help me,” was heard from the pregnant Ajara, who was on oxygen at the hospital.

Many Nollywood celebrities used their personal social media profiles to ask for financial support for her shortly after the little video went viral.

Netizens reacted to the event by criticizing the celebrities for wasting large sums of money at parties while always asking the public for assistance for their colleagues.

Actress Mama No Network responded to the criticism by explaining in a video posted to her Instagram page that although they have given the sick actress more than N5 million, her condition continues to worsen.

“Good evening, everyone,” No Network stated, disclosing the cause of her illness. Ajara is the reason I am here. It was you guys who informed us that the way we posted RIP is too much. Please, for God’s sake, I’m pleading with you. Ajara’s condition is dire.

“This is not content. We need financial support from the public and serious prayers. It’s not that Ajara has not been working, but she has been using most of her earnings to care for her mother, who is suffering from a stroke. The funniest part is that she’s pregnant. I’m also surprised to now hear that she’s also battling a liver-related illness,” she said.

Actress Kemity, musician Lanre Alewilese, actor Jamiu Azeez, and actress Bimpe Oyebade are among the celebrities who have asked for assistance for her.

  • Jide Kosoko Speaks on Emergence as Oloja of Lagos-Elect

Jide Kosoko Speaks on Emergence as Oloja of Lagos-Elect

According to veteran Nollywood actor Jide Kosoko, becoming the Oloja of Lagos-elect is a serious call to service that entails important cultural and societal obligations.

On January 24, Kosoko, 72, was formally introduced as Oloja-elect at the Elereko of Lagos palace, ushering in a new phase of his public life outside of the film business.

Speaking to reporters on Friday, the actor said he was thrilled with the news and that he thought the choice was well-deserved. But he didn’t say if his acting career would be affected in any way by his new traditional role.

Bolaji Amusan, also known as Mr. Latin, a Nollywood actor and theater professional, responded to the announcement by congratulating Kosoko and characterizing the appointment as another evidence that professionals in the film business are responsible, disciplined, and valuable members of society.

“Jide is not the only prince in Lagos or in the Kosoko family, but because of his intelligence and respect in the community, he was chosen as Oloja of Lagos,” Amusan said.

After comedian and actor Okey Bakassi was crowned a monarch in his Imo State village last year, Kosoko now joins an increasing number of celebrities who have assumed traditional leadership roles.

Since Chief Adebola Ige passed away in 2017, the Oloja of Lagos seat has been empty.

The Olori Ebi General of the King Kosoko Royal Family, Mrs. Mutiat Ali-Balogun, openly introduced Kosoko to the assembly and announced his appearance.

She raised his hand in front of guests and members of the royal family during the ceremony, which included customary prayers and rituals. Oyindamola Ayepola, the leader of the Meshimo Ruling House and Deputy Olori Ebi General, joined her.

  • Grammy Awards to Honor Fela With Lifetime Achievement Award

Grammy Awards to Honor Fela With Lifetime Achievement Award

Famous Nigerian singer and Afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo Kuti is scheduled to receive one of the highest accolades in music worldwide, over thirty years after his passing.

According to a BBC story, the Recording Academy will posthumously present Fela with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the upcoming Grammy Awards, making him the first African musician to do so.

The honor honors Fela’s significant and enduring contribution to global music, culture, and political expression.

His groundbreaking sound and ideology, as the undeniable founder of Afrobeat, have impacted generations of musicians throughout Africa and the world music scene.

Seun Kuti, an Afrobeat musician and Fela’s son, commented on the development, calling it an emotional and important event.

“Fela has lived in the hearts of the people for a very long time. Now the Grammys have recognised that, and it feels like a double victory. It brings balance to the Fela story,” he said.

Rikki Stein, a longtime partner and former manager of Fela, also praised the honor, saying it was long overdue.

“Africa hasn’t historically ranked high in their interests, but I think that is changing now,” Stein said.

According to the BBC, the honor coincides with a period of increased interest in African music around the world, primarily due to the growth of Afrobeats, a genre whose origins can be traced back to Fela’s groundbreaking work.

The addition of the Best African Performance category to the Grammy Awards in 2024 further highlighted this expanding awareness.

To honor a legacy that skillfully combined music with political resistance and cultural assertion, the late musician’s family, close friends, and associates are expected to attend the Grammy event and accept the prize on his behalf.

Outside of the stage, Fela was well-known for his unwavering criticism of Nigerian socioeconomic injustice, military rule, and corruption.

His use of music as a protest tactic has put him at war with succeeding military regimes.

This disobedience culminated tragically in 1977 when the military raided and destroyed his Lagos community, the Kalakuta Republic, following the release of his protest song Zombie.

His mother, Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti, died as a result of the vicious raid after suffering injuries.

Unfazed by the catastrophe, Fela reacted with even more defiance, famously bringing his mother’s coffin to government buildings and releasing Coffin for the Head of State, transforming personal sorrow into a biting political message.

The Grammy award, given nearly 30 years after his death, is a historic acknowledgement of Fela Anikulapo Kuti’s lasting legacy as a musical prodigy as well as a daring global voice for African identity, justice, and resistance.

Nollywood Actress Angela Okorie Secures N5m Bail

On Friday, a Federal High Court in Abuja granted Nollywood actress Angela Okorie N5 million bail with one surety of the same amount for allegedly cyberbullying fellow actress Mercy Johnson-Okojie.

In a decision about Okorie’s bail request, which was made by her attorney, Earnest Nwoye, Justice Emeka Nwite determined that, despite the prosecution’s opposition, there was insufficient evidence in front of the court to demonstrate that the defendant would violate bail if it were granted.

“Therefore, I am minded to grant the bail in the interest of justice,” Justice Nwite said, noting that bail is at the discretion of the court, which must be exercised judicially and judiciously.

Okorie was granted N5 million bail by the judge with one surety, who must be a level 13 civil officer and provide an affidavit of means.

He cautioned that the surety would need to present both their appointment letter and their most recent promotion letter.

The judge mandated that Okorie and her surety provide the court registrar with two passport photos and that the registrar confirm the surety’s address.

Okorie was ordered to be held at the Suleja Correctional Center until her bail conditions were fulfilled by Justice Nwite, who postponed the trial to March 23.

  • Pastor Chris Okafor Responds to Wedding Leak Claims

Pastor Chris Okafor Responds to Wedding Leak Claims

Dr. Chris Okafor, an elevangelist and founder of the Mountain of Liberation and Miracle Ministry, has urged for stricter control of Nigeria’s digital domain and expressed worries over what he called “cyberbullying.”

Okafor voiced his displeasure with the actions of bloggers and social media influencers during a news conference in Lagos on Thursday. He accused many of disseminating false information and harming people’s reputations.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Nollywood actress Doris Ogala claimed in November 2025 that Okafor had a long-term relationship with her and had broken a vow to wed her.

Ogala further accused the preacher of killing her brother and burying the head of an unidentified slain person at the altar of his church in the Ojodu region of Lagos State.

In response to the incident, Okafor stated that the most agonizing aspect of the matter was how bloggers and influencers purportedly attacked him on the basis of accusations without providing him with evidence or an opportunity to reply.

“It is so sad that most of the so-called influencers we have often connived with people to come up with fabulous lies to attract traffic to their blogs.

“Many Nigerians have suffered and are still suffering from the lies of bloggers and most often, they get away with it after destroying the image of their targets.

“Very few times, some of the influencers were arrested and dragged to court but 90 per cent of them often go free for far-fetched lies against people.

“Nigeria must find a way to safeguard its internet space, especially to ensure that innocent citizens do not get shattered over lies, demeaning their image,” he said.

In order to serve as a warning to others, the pastor emphasized the necessity for the National Assembly to propose legislation that would control online behavior and guarantee that offenders face consequences.

Additionally, he urged cybercrime authorities to step up their efforts to seek down digital offenders and prosecute them.

Reflecting on his experience, Okafor observed that many bloggers and members of the public failed to seek facts or ask critical questions before accepting the claims against him.

Iyanya Reflects on Love Life at 39

Nigerian singer, Iyanya Onoyom Mbuk, simply known as Iyanya, has spoken candidly about the effects of his profession on his love life.

The 39-year-old Kukere hitmaker clarified that he is still unmarried because the women he previously dated deceived him and frequently threatened to damage his reputation if there was a miscommunication.

Iyanya stated that those experiences traumatized him and caused him to struggle with commitment in a recent Afropolitan podcast episode.

“I’m not thinking of a serious relationship or marriage because I’m not mentally ready yet. If you are patient and stick around until I get to a convenient space, then we can do it.

“But for now, to be committed is one of the hardest things for me to do. Because I have been committed several times as a celebrity and each time, I got hurt.

“You know, when you are famous, you always have girlfriends who can’t wait to go to the blogs when you have misunderstandings.

“I’m human, too. It’s not possible for me to be in the music industry for 17 years and all I have been doing is playing games with women.

“Of course, I have emotions, so I’ve met people and fell in love them genuinely. But they always threatened me with going to the blogs whenever we have issues. That kind of made me develop commitment issues because it has happened several times,” he explained.

The single said he has now embraced celibacy due to his troubles with committing to a relationship.

But he acknowledged that he still finds it difficult to maintain his celibacy on a regular basis.

Adewale was mentioned on a recent episode of The Clarity Zone podcast, which is co-hosted by Nedu Wazobia, also known as Chinedu Ani Emmanuel.

“Do you know STIs can cause mental problems? There is something called neurosyphilis, the third stage of syphilis… There are many things that can lead to mental issues.

“A lot of the people having mental health problems, some of them have STIs. Neurosyphilis affects your brain. It affects the way you process things,” he said.

“I’m Homeless And in Need of N25m For Brain Tumour Surgery”—Halima Abubakar Cries For Help

Halima Abubakar, a Nigerian actress, has once again requested financial support to pay for brain tumor surgery.

Halima talked candidly about her brain tumor diagnosis and subsequent eviction, which left her “homeless and desperate,” during a recent live session.

The movie diva disclosed that in October of last year, she spent all of her money to pay for her mother’s N9 million hernia surgery.

She said that she is currently having trouble finding housing and that she tried to pay her rent with money raised for her medical care, but her landlady allegedly refused to take the money, leaving her without a place to stay.

Halima also directly appealed to powerful people. She called on Yahaya Bello, former Kogi governor; activist VeryDarkMan; and Seyi Tinubu, the president’s son, stating, “I need your help.” ”.

Halima Abubakar Returns as AGN Lifts Suspension

Nollywood actress Halima Abubakar’s ban has been overturned by the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), allowing her to once again take part in guild events and movie productions.

Since October 2024, Abubakar has been suspended indefinitely due to accusations that he defamed prominent Nigerians and other actors.

She was temporarily barred from all AGN programs after a two-year probe by a panel formed by the guild found her guilty.

At the guild’s new National Executive Council, or NEC, inauguration on Thursday at the AGN national secretariat in Abuja, departing AGN National President Emeka Rollas made the announcement.

Actors from all throughout the nation attended the event, along with directors and other entertainment business participants.

Rollas formally transferred power to Abubakar Yakubu after his second and final term concluded in December 2025.

Rollas gave a speech during the ceremony, outlining the reasoning behind the suspension’s removal.

“There were persons that we have suspended according to the AGN law, and because I’m leaving office, I don’t want to leave them suspended.

“Halima Abubakar took AGN to court claiming a frivolous amount of money, but we had our investigations, and we suspended her from all acting and all AGN activities.

“However, since acting remains her main source of livelihood, it would be wicked for us to leave her like that.

“Therefore, today, by the powers imposed on me by the Board of Trustees and the entire Actors Guild of Nigeria, I hereby lift Halima Abubakar’s suspension,” he said.

Additionally, Rollas disclosed that the suspensions of Enugu State chapter members Jeff Okwute, Dan Ewerem, Christopher Igboji, and Chidi Concord had also been revoked.

Rollas was commended for his leadership earlier in the event by Chuks Chyke, Chairman of the Inauguration Organizing Committee, who noted the stability and inclusivity he provided to the guild.

Harrysong’s Ex-Wife Gives Up Custody, Alleges Harassment

The musician Harrysong’s ex-wife, Alexer Peres, has declared that she would temporarily relinquish custody of their two young children, ages three and four.

Alexer revealed in a heartfelt video posted on her Instagram Story on Thursday that she has been raising the kids by herself since their split, with the kids occasionally seeing their father.

“I didn’t plan to come on here, but I want this to serve as evidence that I’m making the hardest decision of my life. At this point, I have no option,” she said.

Alexer accused Harrysong of persistent intervention and harassment, alleging he arrives up unannounced, making it difficult for her to care for the children.

“This man has not let me rest. He frustrates my efforts and harasses me everywhere,” she added.

Alexer added that although she will address accusations in court, the emotional strain is currently unbearable.

“I’m giving him custody for now. That doesn’t mean I won’t come back for my children,” Alexer said, expressing concern over the children living with domestic staff in their father’s absence.

“No mother wants to live without her children, but I don’t know what else to do. I’ll always come back. I want you in my life,” she said.

  • Omije Ojumi’s Family Speaks Out on Money-Begging Claims

Omije Ojumi’s Family Speaks Out on Money-Begging Claims

The family of the late gospel singer Omije Ojumi has refuted rumors circulating on social media and explained the facts underlying the cancellation of burial rites previously suggested by some of her colleagues.

In order to allow the late musician to be buried with respect and peace, the family has now urged the public to disregard false web narratives.

Speaking to attendees at Wednesday’s ceremony of songs and artists’ night, the singer’s brother-in-law, Mr. Femi Eretan, stated that the family decided to handle the burial on their own following conflicts with gospel music community members.

Eretan denied rumors that the family was experiencing internal strife, stating that they are still cohesive and composed and that “many people are crying more than the bereaved.”

He clarified that as soon as the singer passed away, the family got in touch with elders in the neighborhood and relatives from both her maternal and paternal lineages.

He claims that Mr. Wale Akinaanu, the leader of the family, first agreed with some artists’ suggestion to hold the funeral in less than a week.

He said that this was because of Akinaanu’s precarious health, the emotional strain of the situation, and the wish to avoid keeping the deceased’s remains in the mortuary for a long time given the traumatic circumstances of her passing.

But further family conversations, according to Eretan, resulted in a different choice.

The family decided that Omije Ojumi should have a more respectable funeral that would be carefully organized by her family because she was survived by a husband and children and both of her parents had passed away.

He revealed that he tried to get in touch with the representative for the artists who had offered to arrange the funeral, asking for a phone call to clarify the family’s position, but the request was turned down.

“If it is about Omije Ojumi, I am not interested,” an older group member reportedly informed Eretan when he contacted them.

He pointed out that after a communication breakdown, the family was forced to take full responsibility for the funeral plans.

Additionally, Eretan denounced a video released by a self-proclaimed prophet that purportedly stated that the family was openly requesting money and asking gospel musicians to help with the funeral.

He vehemently refuted the accusation and threatened legal action in the absence of supporting documentation.

“I am from Ondo State and I understand the rudiments of the law. Anyone who claims the family begged for burial funds must provide proof,” he said.

Despite the uproar, Eretan showed support by attending the song service and thanked the artists who honored Omije Ojumi in their own unique ways.

Only a few guest performers attended the Lagos service of songs for Omije Ojumi, according to Gist 9ja.
