After sharing an emotional video on TikTok in which she bemoaned being rejected by her Nigerian partner for a Zimbabwean woman, a Nigerian woman living in the UK became viral.
The woman posted a heartfelt video in which she described how her romance ended and the ensuing emotional upheaval.
In the video, she raised concerns about what she called a growing rivalry between Nigerian and Zimbabwean women in terms of dating Nigerian men overseas.
She claimed that while there are guys in her own country to date, she found it difficult to comprehend why a Zimbabwean woman would be interested in her spouse.
She was very upset and said that her partner ended their relationship because he thought the Zimbabwean woman had more desirable physical characteristics.
She went on to say that the breakup was especially painful since she thinks that time is running out and feels like she is getting close to menopause.
She stated in the video:
“Zimbabwean ladies, what’s this competition between you and Nigerian ladies over our own prosperity, our own men? Don’t you have men in your country? My boyfriend left me in the UK over a Zimbabwean lady just because I don’t have big nyash and front… I’m really frustrated right now ’cause I’m nearing menopause. Leave our men alone.”
Since then, her video has elicited conflicting responses on the internet. While some viewers expressed sympathy for her grief, others advised against portraying romantic problems as nationalistic strife.
