After allegedly being engaged in a tragic automobile accident in Surulere, Lagos, Abubakar Yakubu, the recently elected President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, or AGN, has reportedly been placed under arrest.
In a hotly contested election, Yakubu defeated seasoned actress Rita Daniels 116 to 113, with three votes deemed invalid, to win the AGN leadership.
As the first Northern Nigerian to lead the Guild since its official registration in 1998—a role often occupied by Southern Nigerians—his appointment represents a significant turning point in the organization’s history.
A pedestrian is said to have died in the Surulere incident, though specifics of the collision are still unknown.
Regarding Yakubu’s detention and the crash’s circumstances, authorities have not yet issued an official statement.
