Boluwatife Balogun, better known by his stage name Champz, the first son of Wizkid, has talked candidly about his developing love for music and his resolve to forge his own identity apart from his father’s international fame.
The 14-year-old discussed how music naturally entered his life in a recent interview with Glitch Africa.
He claimed that his early exposure came from family and friends and that he was surrounded by a musically interested milieu.
“My dad does music, I have friends who make music, and a cousin who plays piano. I have been making beats and writing songs since I was young,” he shared.
Champz maintains that he is not under any pressure to match Wizkid’s accomplishments, even if he is the son of one of Africa’s most prosperous musicians. He stated that he is only concerned about developing at his own speed.
“There’s no pressure. I’m young. I mean, I’m 14. I still have a long way to go. I’ve done a lot for my age already. No pressure,” he said confidently.
The teenage rapper has been building an online fan following and consistently previewing original music, indicating the beginning of what could turn out to be a successful career.
Champz is prepared to take more calculated steps into the spotlight on his own terms, as seen by his growing public interest and media appearances.
