The internet criticism that followed Nollywood actress Laide Bakare’s recent remarks about taking her adolescent daughter Similoluwa to a nightclub has been addressed.
In a recent conversation with content creator Mr. Lil Gaga, Bakare disclosed that she personally brought her 17-year-old daughter to a club for the first time and even let her try alcohol, according to Gist 9ja.
She explained that the experience helped her get ready for adulthood.
Her remarks went viral very fast, evoking conflicting responses on social media.
The actress received harsh criticism from many Nigerians who said she was encouraging careless parenting and perpetuating unfavorable preconceptions about single mothers.
Bakare responded to the criticism on Instagram by claiming that her comments had been misunderstood and correcting the record.
She clarified that she never made any claims to have introduced her daughter to alcohol by sharing a video from her daughter’s birthday after party.
She wrote: “Let me mention clearly here that I never said I introduced my daughter, @simlineboss, to alcohol. I only stated that she entered a club with me for the very first time in her life at her birthday after party. How is that bad naw?”
The actress urged critics to quit misinterpreting her, arguing that her goal was to provide her daughter a memorable experience rather than to promote underage drinking.
