No Nigerian film will be included in the 2026 Academy Awards’ International Feature Film category, according to confirmation from the Nigerian Official Selection Committee, or NOSC.
According to a statement released by NOSC chairperson Stephanie Linus on Monday, the committee launched a call for submissions in August.
Six films in all were submitted for review.
However, Linus claims that the NOSC agreed by majority to make “No Submission” at a meeting over the weekend, so putting an end to the selection process.
“There is still a lack of creative and technical intentionality that will improve their competitive potential for global awards, even though Nigerian films have undoubtedly shown significant improvement and growing awareness of IFF standards,” Linus stated.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has been formally informed of the committee’s decision.
