The uproar over the widely shared images of Oseloka Obi, the son of former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, has prompted a response from Nigerian comedian Seyi Law.
In what many referred to as a “too-close” photo, the August 2025 photos showed Oseloka dining with a buddy, Okwesa. The images sparked intense discussions right away, with some detractors claiming they would have an effect on his father’s political future.
Seyi Law, however, chose to address the matter in a way that touched a nerve as the online taunts grew more intense. The comedian urged composure in a message on his social media page, emphasizing that Oseloka shouldn’t be evaluated in light of his father’s political career.
The comedian said:
“Now, family is off limits. I never insulted anyone first. It’s okay, sha. Though it is painful, we should be careful not to become what we condemn. Please, let the young man be. He is not his father, neither is he the one that made him some people’s choice.”
Given that the comedian has been one of Peter Obi’s harshest critics, his statement is a little ironic. He did clarify, though, that it is unjust to bring Oseloka into the political sphere.
In the midst of the 2023 elections, the comedian went one step further and posted a screenshot of a communication his wife had once received from a self-described “Obidient.” Threats were made against his family in the communication just because he didn’t back their candidate.
He feels that Nigerians need to learn to distinguish between politics and family because the experience was both sad and pointless.
