The infamous footage of Comfort Emmanson, an Ibom Air passenger, being forcibly removed from an airplane at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos has prompted Nigerian musician Simi to speak out.
Simi is bringing attention to another side of the issue, even though the passenger’s claimed disruptive behavior has dominated much of the public discourse. She questioned how her private disclosure was handled and shared.
According to reports, Comfort disregarded basic aviation regulations by failing to switch off her phone prior to flight from Uyo to Lagos on Sunday, August 10.
Her rejection turned into a confrontation upon arrival, where she allegedly attacked workers, according to Ibom Air’s official statement.
But according to a video taken by someone on the scene, Comfort was forcefully taken from the aircraft and exposed indecently throughout the procedure. Later, the video was uploaded to the internet unaltered and without any blurring.
The musician noted in a post on her Instagram stories that the viral video also raises major concerns about professionalism and privacy breaches, but she did not justify Comfort’s alleged misbehavior.
She wrote: “So let’s say the lady is actually mad and did too much… Someone recorded her being dragged off the plane, recorded her being exposed like that AND THEN POSTED IT without editing out this exposure or blurring it out”
She added.
“I personally wanna know who posted that video and why no one is holding him/her accountable. Because aunty will face the law, but voluntarily posting her half naked for millions of people to see when less than 10 people actually witnessed it in the first place deserves punishment too.”
