Nigerian rapper and singer Azeez Fashola, better known by his stage name Naira Marley, has called on his peers to help revive Afrobeats.
He wrote, “Anyway let’s make afrobeat great again,” in an appeal on X.
Naira Marley is making the appeal in an attempt to reclaim his place among the best Afrobeats musicians after being accused of being involved in the death of his former signee, Mohbad, and facing cancel culture.
Recently, a court rejected Mohbad’s father’s lawsuit against Naira Marley and his associate Sam Larry, finding that there wasn’t enough proof to connect them to the killing.
remembers Ghanaian-American musician Amaarae’s recent assertion that Afrobeats’ global growth has ceased.
She maintained that African music in general and Afrobeats in particular must change.
