An anti-cultism advocacy page on Instagram, Naija Confra, has criticized veteran Nollywood actress Rita Edochie for a video she shared on her social media account.
The actress was seen singing and dancing to a song that is known to be connected to the Aye cult group in a video that she posted on Instagram on Wednesday, July 23.
The advocacy page then took notice of the video, which generated a flurry of online responses. A website that is well-known for taking a strong stand against cultism, Naija Confra, denounced the actress’s behavior as an abuse of power.
The website voiced concerns over the song selection, pointing out that she has an obligation as a public figure to steer clear of anything that might be interpreted as endorsing cult culture.
Sharing the clip, the page wrote:
“A super talented actress and public figure — misusing her influence to promote cultism.”
However, Rita Edochie’s caption, which presented an aggressive and uncompromising image, emphasized her strength and resistance to be treated disrespectfully.
