According to British grime artist Skepta, the time when UK rappers are underappreciated is finished.
“It’s time for British hip-hop artists to receive the recognition they deserve,” he said.
In a recent interview with Link UP TV, Skepta clarified that he had challenged US rappers to a rap war against UK rappers in order to give grime artists the recognition they so well deserve.
He went on to say that he didn’t mean to make American rappers look bad.
“My challenge to US rappers was me saying it is time to get the respect we [UK rappers] deserve. It wasn’t from a place of we are going to annihilate them [US rappers] even though I feel that it is definitely possible. It is more of, We want the respect,” he said.
Drake, meanwhile, has weighed in on the continuing argument about whether US or UK rap is better, claiming that the UK has the best rappers.
The Canadian rapper asserted that no rapper from anywhere in the world can beat English rappers in a rap battle halfway through his Saturday headline performance at the Wireless Festival in London.
