In the infamous “big three” discussion, Nigerian Grammy winner Burna Boy has sparked a new controversy once more. This time, it is thought to be a covert barb at Davido.
Less than 24 hours after the release of his new album, No Sign of Weakness, the “Last Last” crooner posted what many have called a coded missile on his Instagram stories.
Burna Boy posted this obscure message:
“The fact that everyone has a different song on the ‘No Sign of Weakness’ album is all I wanted, and it’s already happened on the 1st day. That’s what an album is supposed to be. An album is not a SINGLE. NO SIGN OF WEAKNESS OUT NOW!!!”
Although no one was specifically named in the comment, the internet music community was able to make inferences without a name. Fan accounts and music enthusiasts started making connections almost immediately.
Burna’s remark was interpreted by many as an oblique criticism of Davido’s fifth studio album, which had previously received a mixed reception.
With You, which featured Omah Lay, was the sole notable example of 5ive’s “top-heavy” style, according to some critics. “Let’s be honest. If you remove ‘With You’ from the tracklist, the album won’t survive one week,” one fan posted on X (formerly Twitter). “Burna is right. One-hit albums are not it. No shade, but 5ive felt rushed,” another replied.
