In the lyrics of his next song, Fuchsia Sea, Zayn Malik is ruminating on the bigotry he claims he encountered while with One Direction.
Over the weekend, the 32-year-old British singer, who is of English, Irish, and Pakistani ancestry, posted a sneak peek of a new song to Instagram.
Malik raps on feeling alienated during his time in the internationally renowned boy band in the song.
“I worked hard in a white band, and they still laughed at the Asian,” he raps, adding lines like,
“Got my back against the wall so much they think I got a brick fascination.
I’ve been conscious of every connotation while they concentrate on their elevation.”
