Internet users have criticized Nigerian Afrobeats artist Burna Boy, also known as Damini Ogulu, as he celebrates his 34th birthday.
The Grammy-winning musician used a cute old photo from his fifth birthday to take fans on a nostalgic trip.
The City Boy crooner initially posted a picture of his birthday cake with the number five on it, posing with his sisters, according to online users. The post was quickly removed and replaced with a similar image, except this time it seemed as though the person had been altered.
The adorable picture showed a young Burna with his two sisters at his side, both of them wearing cute vintage attire. The birthday kid was grinning with pride behind a cake. Online comments were sparked by the tiny alteration in the image, with many claiming that he didn’t want to subtly promote his competitor Davido’s most recent album, 5ive.
It was previously stated that after a recent publication, the Recording Academy, which hosts the prestigious Grammy Awards, sparked a great deal of indignation on Nigerian internet. The academy’s official X page sparked a debate after they discussed their top three performers and examined the development of the Afrobeats genre.
The Recording Academy talked about the rise of Afrobeats in the mid-2010s and their top 10 songs, which include Rema’s Ozeba and 2Baba’s African Queen, in the same tweet. According to the tweet, Wizkid, Burna Boy, and Rema were named the top three Afrobeats musicians from 2010 to the present at the Grammy Awards.
This sparked reaction from Netizens:
