In a new viral interview with vocal activist VeryDarkMan (VDM), controversial Lagos socialite Sam Larry finally broke his silence. The music promoter and Marlian Music boss Naira Marley has been blamed for the singer’s death in September 2023.
In the video, which went viral on Saturday, June 28, 2025, Sam Larry talked about his relationship with late singer Mohbad, whom he insists he never bullied. Instead, he stated that the public has distorted the story surrounding Mohbad’s passing and that he is being unfairly attacked online by those who didn’t truly support the singer while he was alive.
Sam Larry disclosed in the interview that he believed Mohbad owed him N2 million, which he said was for a shared birthday concert the singer had committed to give for him in January. He claims that Mohbad personally came up with the concept for the birthday show and even submitted his account information to get paid for his presence. However, things didn’t work out as expected.
“His birthday was January 4, mine was January 7. He told me to merge the shows and collect an appearance fee. He got paid but never showed up.”
The music promoter, who has been under heavy fire since Mohbad’s untimely death, maintained that he never intended to harm the late star. Sam Larry, who claimed he wasn’t even in town when the incident happened, expressed guilt and sadness over Mohbad’s death despite their tense relationship.
He said: “Yes, I miss him. He was a good boy. All these people shouting ‘Justice for Mohbad’ didn’t even support his music when he was alive. I carried his career on my head. I took him everywhere.”
