Nigerian singer GoodGirl LA, whose real name is Euphemia Ekumah, has talked candidly about her battle with depression and how the loneliness that followed changed her life.
The singer, who has been silent for a while, revealed that she was battling depression alone but that she used it to her advantage by concentrating on self-transformation and self-mastery.
According to the Bless Me crooner, she refused offers that many musicians were vying for at the time because she didn’t want to sell her soul.
She claimed that because she refused to make concessions, her friends denigrated her and that some people referred to her as “crazy.”
She claimed that even her parents referred to her as “a failure,” which caused her to reevaluate her priorities.
The 28-year-old went on to say that creating music and changing people’s lives are her top priorities.
In a series of posts on X, GoodGirl LA wrote:
“I had periods of unavoidable isolation and just shit, so I charged it. I focused on self-mastery and transmutation, all the while saying no to certain opportunities that nggas would kill for because I stand for something. I know what I want and where I’m going, and I won’t sell my soul just to belong and keep up appearances. Nggas called me crazy lol but I am—I’m a f*cking genius.
“In that period, my ‘friends’ started to look down on me and pretty much just shenked me. Bruh, even my own parents did too and called me a failure. It changed my view on what’s really important. I’ve seen how the world treats a young girl that’s tryna achieve greatness. The cheers and boos aren’t what any of this is about. It’s really all about art, touching my Gs and the world…”
