Terry G.: I gave Nigerian artists the courage to use cannabis on TV.

Terry G, better known as singer Gabriel Oche Amanyi, has asserted that he had a unique cultural influence on the Nigerian music scene.

According to him, his “sacrifice” provided Nigerian artists the courage to use cannabis while performing.

The Free Madness hitmaker said that Nigerian musicians lacked the courage to openly smoke cannabis on film prior to his rise to fame.

On Sunday, the Akpako Master posted the claim on social media.

“No hard feelings, it’s all love, but don’t forget to say if no be my sacrifice, none of your favorites go get liver to smoke Igbo for screen,” he said on his X handle.

Many questioned his allegation, pointing out that even before Terry G was born, Nigerian music pioneers like Afrobeat mastermind Fela Anikulapo-Kuti smoked onscreen.
