Martins Vincent Otse, also known as Verydarkman (VDM), is a social media activist who has responded to his older brother Mark Otse’s heartfelt video about his recent social media silence.
Mark, who struggled to explain the situation but emphasized the need for public support and intercession, was obviously shaken as he asked followers to pray for his brother in the widely shared video.
He clarified that he had been profoundly impacted by the many murders of farmers and herders, especially in Jos and Benue.
The activist claims that he has been emotionally and intellectually exhausted by his studies into the conflict’s underlying roots.
VDM added that the violence in Jos has been going on for more than ten years and did not start suddenly. The same pattern continues, violence breaks out, citizens demonstrate, service chiefs travel to the impacted areas, and life goes on without any meaningful remedies, he explained.
He challenged the government’s strategy, posing questions about what officials were doing incorrectly and what steps should be taken to put an end to the situation once and for all. The president and the governor of Benue state were openly criticized by VDM a few days prior for their handling of recent killings in the area.
