According to Afrobeats artist Michael Adebayo Olayinka, better known by his stage name Ruger, true friendship is scarce in the Nigerian music scene.
According to him, an artist in the music business can have no more than two true pals.
Ruger clarified that connections in the music industry are frequently focused on business during an appearance on a recent episode of The Stanley Agu Show.
“One thing I wish I had known earlier is that nobody in the [music] industry is your friend,” he remarked. The most you can have are perhaps two true friends that support you, care about your well-being, and are there for you even in difficult times. Man, that’s all.
“Everything is business. No one is interested. Just be aware that everything is corporate. Because you are able to contribute at that moment, they are traveling with you. Many folks will flip the instant you may not have anything to give. Keep in mind that you may only have two, one, or no friends in the sector.
