BBNaija star Natacha “Tacha” Akide has responded to the popular Labubu toy on social media.
Videos of women getting enthusiastic about the Labubu toy, which they attach to their bags or garments as accessories, have recently swept over Nigerian social media. The Labubu toy is said to cost between N160,000 and N260,000, and young women and even men are increasingly interested in purchasing it.
According to a social media search, the Labubu is a well-liked collectible toy that is a part of Hong Kong artist Kasing Lung’s “The Monsters” series. Known for their pointed ears, cheeky grins, and frequently exposed teeth, these elf-like figures are mostly offered as limited-edition blind box figures by the Chinese toy firm Pop Mart.
Tacha talked about the Labubu toy trend on her own Instagram page. The influencer and reality show star harshly criticized those who paid for the toy, citing peer pressure as the main reason.
She said; “Even the people that have not chop belleful are going to buy Labubu. You don’t even know where the Labubu toy originated from, but because of peer pressure. What peer pressure cannot do doesn’t exist. Do you even know what Labubu is? You never chop belleful you want to go and spend N200k on Labubu, a culture you don’t even understand. Check on your WhatsApp now, you have bills you have to pay, you’ve not gone to pay those people, but just because your friend is carrying Labubu, you too want to carry Labubu. What is Labubu? You can’t even spell it.”
