Nigerian musician Anthony Ebuka Victor, better known by his stage name Victony, has disclosed how his parents began to encourage his musical endeavors after he was involved in a vehicle accident.
The “Soweto” hitmaker was involved in a fatal accident in April 2021 that left three people injured and one person dead.
He disclosed in an interview with the Behind The Prestige podcast that his parents initially opposed his musical endeavors, preferring that he finish his schooling and seek a career in engineering.
He added that following his vehicle accident in 2021, they realized how much music meant to him because of the overwhelming amount of public support he received.
“My parents were not cool with me doing music from the jump. They didn’t tell me to stop, but they weren’t 100% supportive of it,” he said.
“They hoped I’d finish school and become an engineer.
“But when I had my accident in 2021 and they saw how much impact I had on people, how people on social media were posting things like ‘pray for Victony’, they realised my music career meant a lot to me and just let me do what I wanted.”
Victony only gained recognition a few years ago when he co-wrote the popular song “Holy Father” with Mayorkun.
Tobi Mohammed, a Nigerian music executive, formed the record label Mainland Block Party, where he is signed.
Victony called his accident a “blessing in disguise” in 2023.
