Gehgeh, a notorious social analyst, has sparked intense internet debates after criticizing Burna Boy and Davido, two Nigerian musicians, for their recent acquisitions of expensive cars.
Gehgeh used his platform to voice his disgust, claiming that it was disrespectful for celebrities to show off their wealth in a nation where many people lack access to basic food.
His remarks follow Davido’s unveiling of his Tesla Cybertruck and Burna Boy’s rumored addition of a brand-new McLaren Senna to his collection, both of which are high-end automobiles valued at over ₦2 billion.
In his words, “You guys need to seek advice from Wizkid. In a country where people can’t afford three square meals, you are buying cars for over 2 billion naira. Some people can’t even buy a keke of 2 or 3 million naira.”
He added: “If I own Burna Boy’s money, keke will be surplus. Empowerment everywhere, I will empower people. You guys are using money that can feed a full state in 6 months to buy cars. And you are happy because of the mentality in Nigeria.”
Gehgeh commended Wizkid in the same clip for being an artist who doesn’t use ostentatious purchases to get attention.
He says Burna Boy and Davido should take inspiration from Wizkid’s humility and financial savvy.
According to him, the mindset that prioritizes vanity over worth is just as much of an issue in Nigeria as the country’s economic situation.
