Mavis Nkrumah, 30, was arrested by the Greater Accra Regional Police Command for reportedly dousing her ex-boyfriend, Gideon Frimpong, in acid following a fight about their separation.
According to police accounts, the incident happened after the ex-couple got together to discuss unresolved matters pertaining to the breakup. Ms. Nkrumah is accused of using the corrosive material to attack Mr. Frimpong, a 29-year-old cab driver, following a violent argument that broke out during the debate.
After suffering serious injuries, Mr. Frimpong was taken to a hospital and is presently undergoing treatment. According to medical personnel, his condition is stable, but because of the severity of his burns, he will need continuous care.
Ms. Nkrumah tried to leave the scene after the attack but was later caught by police. She is still being held while the inquiry is ongoing.
