According to Jessica Okafor, a Nigerian woman, marriage is about much more than romantic vacations and adorable pictures posted on social media.
She believes that marriage is about kindness, understanding, consideration, and modest, silent acts of love.
In a Facebook post on Monday, Jessica said that she felt overburdened by the responsibilities of being a wife, mother, and businesswoman. She described how her husband responded when he discovered her crying while doing the dishes.
She wrote: “One day, I cried while doing the dishes,”
Hubby walked in, took one look at me, and without saying a word, he brought out a chair, sat beside me, and started drying the plates.
No questions. No lectures. Just presence.
I didn’t even realize how overwhelmed I was until that moment.
Being a wife, a mother, a businesswoman, it all felt like too much.
And that night, his quiet support reminded me of why I said “yes” to him in the first place.
Marriage is not just about the romantic getaways and cute Instagram photos.
It’s about small, quiet acts of love that speak louder than words.
It’s choosing each other every single day,
Even on the days that don’t feel magical.
So dear wives (and husbands too)
Don’t let society define what love should look like.
Sometimes love is him drying plates beside you in silence.
Or just sitting with you telling a story while you go work in the kitchen.
And that, to me, is priceless.
Keep being amazing. I’m rooting for your home.
