Comedian Acapella  reveals he got threats for defending claims that Lagos smells.

Acapella, a well-known comedian, has disclosed that he received multiple threats after criticizing Tokunbo Wahab, the Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, for his response to allegations that Lagos is smelly.

The controversy began when well-known influencer Scott Iguma said in a widely shared video that Lagos is full of “big mosquitoes” and smells.

Tokunbo Wahab, the Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, sharply rebutted the claim that some people who move to Lagos from other states in pursuit of better opportunities are purposefully attempting to damage the state’s reputation by using social media to “propagate harmful narratives” and impede the state’s advancement.

Acapella responded by accusing the commissioner of enforcing discriminatory practices based on origin and ethnicity which resulted in contentious interactions on social media between the comedian and Lagos State Government supporters.

On Tuesday, Acapella disclosed through his X handle that he had received multiple threats during his disagreement with the commissioner, saying that over the past few days, he has received a number of direct messages and a few calls with occasional empty treats. To be clear, however, no Nigerian is more Nigerian than any other Nigerian. Don’t be duped by anyone into thinking you’re demonizing the nation, especially when you bring up the problems facing our country.

He added that identifying the existence of a problem was the first step towards solving it, and all they had was themselves.
